On 6/29/11, the San Jose Police Department received reports of numerous Vietnamese community members in San Jose who had been victims of consumer fraud between 2010 and 2011. The owner of a San Jose travel agency operating under the business name of Asia Travel & Tours is suspected of defrauding customers by accepting their monies with the intent of keeping the funds without rendering services.

The suspect promised victims he would purchase airfare and make travel arrangements in exchange for the monies collected.  In June, some of the victims realized they had been defrauded after arriving at the airport and learning that the suspect had never purchased airline tickets or made other travel arrangements for which they had paid.  Asia Travel & Tours has since closed its doors for business and the suspect’s whereabouts are unknown.  Investigators are in the process of seeking an arrest warrant for the suspect.

Investigators believe additional victims may exist, as some victims purchased travel services months in advance and paid the suspect for such services last year.

Victims who have not contacted the police, and anyone with information about this fraud incident, are urged to call the San Jose Police Department at (408) 277-8900.  Victims may also file a report at the San Jose Police Department, 201 W. Mission St., in San Jose.

Persons contacting the San Jose Police Department are asked to reference case # 11-184-9514 and provide as much documentation or transaction receipts as possible.
