* Pinole Police Chase Ends in Car Crash

Published by on July 14, 2011

A chase through residential streets beginning in Pinole today ended when the driver crashed his car in Tara Hills and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to Pinole police. Officers attempted to stop a 1993 Nissan 300ZX for a traffic violation at approximately 2:25 p.m. near the corner of Appian Way and Knob Hill Ave in Pinole. The car fled and ran several stop signs before crashing on O’Harte Road in Tara Hills, Pinole Police Department Commander Danny Hughes said.

The 24-year-old driver lost control of his car and spun out, hitting a cement retaining wall on the side of the road. The driver was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center, where he is in critical but stable condition. Police have not yet identified the driver, who they said was believed to be a parolee at large who had been armed with a loaded firearm. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Timothy Cauwels at (510) 724-8950.
