A female body was found burning in Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood this morning, a police spokeswoman said. Police received multiple calls reporting the body at Ivanhoe and Chabot roads at around 4:40 a.m., Officer Holly Joshi said. Investigators were unable to determine the victim’s age and race due to the extent of burns and injuries, Joshi said. Joshi said it appears the body had been dumped at the Rockridge location and that the victim had suffered trauma before she was burned. The cause of death was not known as of this morning. The first priority for investigators is to identify the body, Joshi said. The department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the victim and are reviewing missing persons cases for a possible lead.
