A 19-year-old Oakland man is in a local hospital with life-threatening injuries after being shot during a robbery Tuesday night, police said. Oakland police spokeswoman Holly Joshi said the man was walking from his vehicle to a nearby residence in the 2700 block of 25th Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when he was approached by a suspect who tried to take his backpack.

When the victim resisted, the suspect shot him and ran from the scene with his backpack, Joshi said. She said Oakland police have increased their patrol focus in the area and are asking anyone with information about the incident to call their felony assault unit at (510) 238-3426.
