Santa Cruz police arrested a 43-year-old man on suspicion of attempting to burglarize a home early this morning. The attempted burglary allegedly took place at about 3:40 a.m. in the 300 block of Highland Avenue, police said.
The homeowner caught the man, identified as Rickey Vaughn Hazen, standing at the front door after hearing a noise and their dog barking, police said. The homeowner took out a firearm and held Hazen at gunpoint until officers arrived. Nothing was taken from the house and no one was harmed, according to police.
Hazen was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail.
