Copper wire thieves climbed power poles in Antioch early Thursday morning and cut high-tension power lines, Antioch police said. Police received a call at about 5 a.m. reporting suspicious activity on Shadow Lane near a large condominium development that borders state Highway 4. When officers got there, they found several cut power lines hanging from the poles and other lines on the ground, police said.

It appears that thieves scaled large metal power poles that line the highway and cut multiple lines attached to the poles. The lines were under extreme tension and, when cut, fell with enough force to damage about 10 vehicles parked in the parking lot below, police said. Police are still following up on leads and are asking anyone with information about the theft or any similar copper wire thefts to call Detective Krenz at (925) 779-6866.
