A 30-year-old Richmond man was shot to death in the city’s Hilltop neighborhood on Monday night, Richmond police Lt. Bisa French said. Police received ShotSpotter alerts shortly after 8 p.m. that gunfire had been detected in the 3100 block of Southhampton Court, French said. When officers arrived, they found Leslie Howard suffering from gunshot wounds.
French said Howard had been visiting someone in the area and was walking in the 2600 block of Lancaster Drive when the shooter approached him and began firing, French said. Howard tried to run but was fatally wounded, French said. A description of the shooter was not available, and the motive remains unclear.
