Two men and a 16-year-old girl were arrested Monday afternoon on suspicion of robbing medical marijuana from a man who was trying to sell it, a Sonoma County sheriff’s sergeant said. The robbery suspects were invited to a residence on Butler Avenue in Santa Rosa to view the marijuana Monday afternoon, Sgt. Carlos Basurto said. One of the two men took out a gun and pointed it at the man trying to sell the pot, Basurto said.
The two suspects then fled in a black Honda with the marijuana. The 16-year-old girl, who is from Lake County, was in the car, Basurto said. The victim, who had a license to grow the marijuana, knew one of the suspects and identified him when the suspects were arrested around 3:45 p.m. Monday in the Honda in the area of Franklin Drive and Lewis Avenue in Santa Rosa, Basurto said. Benjamin Sampson, 20, Richard Downing, 18, and the teen girl were arrested on suspicion of robbery, burglary and conspiracy, Basurto said.
Sampson was also charged with allegedly violating probation.Downing was booked into Sonoma County Jail on $40,000 bail, and Sampson is being held without bail. The girl was booked into juvenile hall. Detectives found one pound of marijuana taken in the robbery and a handgun used in the theft at a location frequented by Downing, Basurto said.
