A Morgan Hill man was arrested early Saturday morning after he appeared to drive away from a Castroville bar while drunk and evaded peace officers who eventually used a stun gun to stop him, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
Ernesto Flores Barraza, 33, was allegedly seen speeding away from Moreno’s Bar at 10660 Merritt St. at about 2 a.m. Peace officers tried to stop Barraza who allegedly evaded the officers until he hit a dead end, the sheriff’s office said. Barraza abandoned his 1990 black Dodge Ram truck in the street and ran away, leading police on a foot pursuit. Officers captured him when he tripped, deputies said. When officers detained Barraza, he allegedly resisted arrest.
Officers used a stun gun on his right shoulder to stop him, deputies said. California Highway Patrol officers arrived to conduct a DUI test and allegedly determined Barraza had been driving under the influence, according to the sheriff’s office. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office arrested Barraza on suspicion of resisting arrest, drunken driving and other vehicle code violations.
