A five-month police investigation resulted in the arrest of two East Bay men in connection with a January homicide that occurred during an apartment burglary in Hayward, police said Friday. Maurice Collins, 28, and his girlfriend were asleep in their apartment in the 29000 block of Vanderbilt Street when they awoke to find two men inside at about 11:40 p.m. on January 4.
men had climbed a tree that gave them access to a second-story balcony, where they broke into the apartment through a sliding glass patio door, police said. Once inside, the men confronted Collins and his girlfriend. During the confrontation, Collins was fatally shot, police said.
One suspect — Richard Delosangeles, 22, of Fremont — was arrested on May 18, after what police said was a lengthy and intensive investigation. Delosangeles was taken into custody at a San Francisco nightclub that night, and police said that he allegedly confessed to his involvement in the homicide.
The second suspect — Joseph Thomas Conners, 20, of Hayward — was arrested in front of his home without incident after service of an arrest warrant, police said. Both Delosangeles and Conners are being held on suspicion of murder.
