San Jose police have arrested three men and are searching for a fourth in connection with the murder of 20-year-old Jeffery Melanio in March. Melanio was shot on the night of March 23 while standing with his friends in the parking lot of a strip mall in the 900 block of Lundy Avenue, police said. His group of friends was approached by a second group, and after a verbal altercation, a suspect took out a handgun, shot Melanio and then fled, police said. Melanio died at Regional Medical Center of San Jose.
Three men, all San Jose residents, have been arrested in connection with Melanio’s murder. They have been identified as Billy Nguyen, 22; Jimmy Nguyen, 24; and Huy Van Nguyen, 23. Billy Nguyen is in custody at San Quentin State Prison on a parole violation and is awaiting extradition to Santa Clara County, according to police. His brother Jimmy Nguyen and cousin Huy Nguyen have been arrested for accessory after the fact, according to police.
Detectives allege they knowingly aided Billy Nguyen and Jaime Soth, a 24-year-old San Jose resident who is a friend of all three, evade arrest and prosecution. An arrest warrant has been issued for Soth, who police believe is armed and dangerous. Soth is described as a Cambodian man, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 180 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion.
