A 26-year-old man was killed in a shooting near San Leandro on Tuesday evening, an Alameda County sheriff’s spokesman said today. The shooting happened at about 7:15 p.m. in the parking lot of a large apartment complex in the 1200 block of Kentwood Lane in the Ashland area, sheriff’s Sgt. J.D. Nelson said. A Hayward police officer who happened to be in a nearby apartment on unrelated business heard the shots, stepped outside and saw people running in different directions, Nelson said.
Deputies responded and found the victim, Darrell Bradford, a resident of unincorporated San Leandro, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Nelson said. Bradford was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, where he died. Police searched the neighborhood but didn’t locate the shooter, and no arrests have been made in the case. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
