Gilroy police are investigating a gang-related stabbing and assault early Sunday morning that left two people seriously injured. The stabbing occurred during a fight between nine people in the 7100 block of Eigleberry Street, near the intersection of East Eighth and Monterey streets, around 2:40 a.m., according to police. Two people involved in the fight confronted the first victim, who wasn’t involved in the melee, and one of them stabbed him several times in the torso, according to police. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
The group, including the two suspects involved in the stabbing, then dispersed and a number of people ran south on Eigleberry Street. The second victim, who had witnessed the stabbing, followed the group to the area of East Ninth and Eigleberry streets, where he was attacked by two boys and a girl, police said.
Police arrived and arrested the juveniles in connection with the assault. The other members of the group, including the stabbing suspects, remain at large. The suspects in the stabbing were both described as Hispanic males. One was armed with a knife and was wearing a dark-colored baseball cap and a black sweatshirt. The second was wearing dark clothing.
