* Armando Gil and Alessandra Marie Coyle Arrested for Alleged Attempted Murder

Published by on June 2, 2011

A man suspected of shooting two men in a car outside a Novato shopping center in January is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon. Armando Gil, 26, of Novato, was arrested for attempted murder on Monday in Marin County Jail, where he is being held on unrelated charges, Novato police said. He is suspected in the shooting of a 23-year-old San Jose man and a 27-year-old Novato man at the Hamilton Marketplace in Novato on Jan. 3. Gil had been arrested in Rohnert Park on Feb. 3 on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, but the Marin County District Attorney’s Office did not file charges at that time pending further investigation, police said.

Gil is now being held on $1 million bail on charges of attempted murder and participation in a criminal street gang, as well as charges of rape and sex with a minor that stem from an unrelated case, according to the jail’s booking log. His co-defendant in the alleged gang-related attempted murders, Alessandra Marie Coyle, 22, of Novato, is being held in the jail without bail. A date for her preliminary hearing is to be set Wednesday. Police also arrested a 17-year-old San Rafael boy on Thursday in connection with the shooting. He has been booked into juvenile hall. Novato police said the investigation into shooting is continuing.
