An 88-year-old man was knocked unconscious during a home invasion in Menlo Park early Sunday morning, police said. At about 5:15 a.m., two men entered a home in the 1000 block of Windermere Avenue after kicking in a side garage door, Menlo Park police spokeswoman Nicole Acker said. The suspects started to ransack the home when they were confronted by the elderly man who lives there, Acker said. One of the suspects said he was armed with a gun and told the victim not to move, Acker said.

The victim was struck in the head with an unknown object and lost consciousness. He called police when he regained consciousness at about 7:30 a.m. The victim is recovering from a minor head injury, Acker said. Nothing appeared to have been stolen from his home. Detectives are investigating a possible link between the home invasion and two other incidents reported in the city at about the same time.

At about 5:40 a.m., a homeowner in the 600 block of Central Avenue reported hearing someone pounding or kicking at the front door, Acker said. No one was seen but a car was heard driving away. At about 5:50 a.m., a homeowner in the 800 block of Laurel Avenue heard two men talking outside and reported to police that at least one of them tried to kick in the front door. The men ran off when the resident yelled and called police. One of the suspects was described as a black man in his early 20s, around 5 feet 10 inches tall wearing a dark hoodie and dark shoes.
