A mother managed to quickly grab her 5-year-old child from her car as she was carjacked in Belmont on Tuesday night, police said. The two were sitting in a parked car in a lot behind Toto’s Pizzeria and Restaurant at 1250 El Camino Real at about 9 p.m. when a man got into the car and demanded the keys, according to Belmont police. The woman, who was pushed out of the car, managed to pull her child from the backseat before the suspect drove away.
The car was last seen traveling east on Waltermire Street, toward El Camino Real. Responding officers were unable to locate the carjacker. He was described as black, about 30 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall and 180 pounds, police said. He has short, black hair and no facial hair, and was wearing a black windbreaker and blue jeans. Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact the Belmont Police Department at (650) 595-7400.
