Fort Leonard Wood commander Col. Charles Williams reports that Cody Willcoxson got lost during a police pursuit amid Interstate 44 highway construction before turning into the fort. St. Robert Police Chief Curtis Curenton reports that Willcoxson allegedly tried to shoot four police officers during high speed chase. Willcoxson fired more than 80 rounds at pursuing officers, reloading an AK-47 assault rifle.
Willcoxson was being sought for allegedly breaking into a home and carjacking the homeowner’s car.
Willcoxson was released from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections in 2008 after serving about 3½ years for burglary, escaping from jail and other felonies.
In 1999, Willcoxson and nine other inmates attacked a guard and escaped from the Delaware County Jail in Oklahoma. He had escaped at least one other time before and police suspected him of planning that escape. He remained at large for three years before he was arrested in Texas in 2003.
