A 3-year-old girl who went missing this afternoon and who Campbell police believed to be a victim of severe child abuse was found tonight and is now in the custody of Child Protective Services, police said. Campbell police arrived at a home in the 1300 block of Pollard Road to check on the welfare of Dejah, 3, at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police found the girl more than five hours later in San Jose. Dejah was found at about 8 p.m. with her mother, Jane Marin, who was taken into custody at the San Jose shopping center parking lot near Santa Teresa Boulevard and Bernal Road where the pair was located, police said. The girl was taken to a hospital and, as of this evening, was in the custody of Child Protective Services, according to authorities. Police said that Marin would be booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of felony child abuse.
Authorities are still looking for Marin’s former boyfriend, George Rodriguez, who is wanted on a $125,000 felony warrant for child abuse charged related to this case, police said. Police describe Rodriguez as a 35-year-old Hispanic man standing 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing about 230 pounds.
