A man suspected of stealing a woman’s purse in the Terra Linda Safeway store Monday was arrested today when he returned to the store, San Rafael police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said.Store management called police at 11 a.m. to report the suspect was waiting in line at the deli counter, Rohrbacher said.

A manager stayed on the phone with a police dispatcher and reported the suspect’s movements, Rohrbacher said. Mark Allen Miller, 57, of Greenbrae, was arrested when he left the store, Rohrbacher said. He was booked into Marin County Jail for burglary, grand theft and use of a stolen credit card, Rohrbacher said.

Miller is suspected of taking the woman’s purse from her shopping cart as she paid for her groceries around noon Monday. He then allegedly went into a restroom at the front of the store and removed cash, an identification and credit cards, Rohrbacher said. One of the woman’s credit cards was used to buy gas in the area about an hour later, Rohrbacher said.The suspect was filmed by a store surveillance camera.
