A 19-year-old Pittsburg man was shot in the shoulder near the Delta De Anza Trail in Pittsburg on Monday night in what may have been a gang-related incident, East Bay Regional Park District police said today. Pittsburg police called park district police at about 11:30 p.m. and told them they were investigating a shooting that happened on the trail near Crestview Drive. Pittsburg police said the victim had been transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

The victim had reportedly come upon four males on the trail and they exchanged confrontational words and gang phrases, police said. When the victim approached the group, one of the four fired two to three shots at him, striking him once, police said. The group then fled west along the trail. The victim told investigators that lighting was minimal in the area and he didn’t know his attackers or what they looked like, police said. Park district police searched for the suspects with a police dog,  but didn’t find them. They were continuing to investigate the case today and were planning to examine the bullet that hit the victim after his surgery.
