Three suspects were taken into custody on suspicion of stealing a car at gunpoint in San Leandro Thursday night, according to police. The victim of the alleged theft was returning home in her car and parking in a driveway near the 700 block of Donovan Drive at about 9:15 p.m., when three suspects confronted her, police Lt. Jeff Tudor said. The suspects took the keys from the victim’s car and snatched her purse, and the victim screamed for help. Her roommate came out to help and one of the suspects shot her roommate in the leg using an assault rifle, Tudor said.
All three suspects then fled in the stolen car, Tudor said. About two hours later, deputies from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department spotted the car speeding along Interstate Highway 880, Tudor said. The car crashed while exiting toward A Street and all three suspects were taken into custody. Police haven’t recovered the assault rifle, Tudor said.
