* Kevin Gunning arraigned for alleged murder of David Johnson II on Pinenut Way in Antioch

A man accused of fatally shooting another man in his home in Antioch on Monday night is scheduled to be arraigned today in Martinez.On Thursday, prosecutors filed murder charges against 30-year-old Kevin Gunning for the fatal shooting of 26-year-old David Johnson II. He has also been charged with an enhancement for the use of a gun.

The shooting happened at about 9:35 p.m. Monday in a house in the 2200 block of Pinenut Way, where Johnson lived with his stepfather and Gunning’s ex-girlfriend, police said.The ex-girlfriend told police that she escaped from the house while Gunning got into an argument with Johnson and other residents.

She told police she heard gunshots and then saw Gunning flee on foot.Johnson was found dead by arriving officers, and Gunning was arrested about three hours later, police said.Antioch police Sgt. Steve Bias said investigators have information that Gunning, who may have also lived in the house at some point, had been in a minor altercation with Johnson about a month earlier, but it was unclear whether that dispute led to the shooting.

Police also noted that the victim and Gunning’s ex-girlfriend were not romantically involved.Gunning is scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. today in Contra Costa County Superior Court in Martinez. His bail has been set at $2.3 million.
