Santa Rosa police arrested a local transient Wednesday on suspicion of committing at least five commercial burglaries in the past month, a police sergeant said this afternoon.Ryan Roberts, 20, was arrested in the area of Stony Point Road and state Highway 12 after a police field and evidence technician recognized his blue Ford Explorer, Sgt. Michael Lazzarini said.
The field end evidence technician saw the Explorer in a surveillance video of a Wednesday burglary at Empire College, located at 3035 Cleveland Ave., Lazzarini said.Roberts allegedly had property from burglaries at Empire College and from other thefts in Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park and San Rafael, Lazzarini said.Roberts allegedly worked with others, who have yet to be identified, in some of the burglaries, Lazzarini said.
The stolen property included flat screen televisions, small electronics and computers, office equipment, purses, wallets and checkbooks, Lazzarini said The targeted Santa Rosa businesses included La Cantera Racquet Club, 3737 Montgomery Drive on March 16; The Lodge at Paulin Creek, 2375 Range Ave. on March 19; Kmart at 3771 Cleveland Ave. on March 23; Laservue Eye Center at 3540 Mendocino Ave. on April 7; and Empire College.
Police used fingerprint and surveillance video to identify Roberts as the primary suspect, Lazzarini said.Roberts was arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary and possession of stolen property, and on an arrest warrant and for probation violations, Lazzarini said. He is being held in Sonoma County Jail.
