Officers apprehended a suspect after he allegedly stole a taxi from a Shell gas station and sped away in Hercules early Tuesday morning, according to police.Dillon Snell, 22, of Richmond, was seen speeding away from a Shell gas station near the corner of San Pablo and Sycamore avenues toward state Highway 4 in Hercules at about 1:30 a.m., police said.
Snell, who was with another man, drove the stolen car to Martinez along state Highway 4 and McEwen Road, according to police. Officers spotted the car going about 90 mph back to Hercules near San Pablo Avenue and John Muir Parkway, where the car collided with the center median on John Muir Parkway, police said.The taxi rolled several times and eventually landed in a ravine between South Front Street and John Muir Parkway.
Officers couldn’t find Snell or the other suspect in the car, so they conducted a search with the help of Hercules and Pinole police, the California Highway Patrol and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.Snell was found at about 6:50 p.m. and taken to a local hospital for treatment.The other suspect, an unidentified man, may have been ejected or fled from the car. Police have yet to locate him as of Wednesday afternoon, Hercules police spokeswoman Michelle Harrington said.
