A 38-year-old man was convicted Thursday on a count of vehicular manslaughter for the 2009 death of a man in Burlingame, according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe. Bruce Walker Jr., 38, was driving south on El Camino Real in a silver Infinity M45 the night of April 11, 2009, when he crossed Howard Avenue and lost control of the car, according to police. The car slid sideways into a eucalyptus tree and a passenger, Daniel James White, 36, was killed in the crash, police said. White, of San Francisco, died after being pulled from the wreck, and Walker was then arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving, according to police.

A 12-member jury gave a guilty verdict for felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and intoxication, but the jury was deadlocked on a murder charge, according to Wagstaffe’s office. The jury had voted 9-3 in favor of murder, but ultimately the case was declared a mistrial. The next court date on the case is May 6 at 9 a.m., when officials
will discuss a re-trial and set a sentencing date for the manslaughter conviction. Walker remains in jail on a $2 million bail.
