A carjacking suspect who was holed up in a Budget Inn in Hayward this morning has surrendered to Alameda County sheriff’s deputies, a sheriff’s dispatcher said. The incident began at about 5 a.m. when a deputy ran the license plate of a car in the parking lot of the Budget Inn at 21598 Foothill Blvd. and learned that it had been stolen in an armed carjacking, Sgt. J.D. Nelson said. While the deputy was checking the plate, a man exited the car and ran into one of the motel rooms.Nelson said at about 7:30 a.m. that deputies were “working up a plan to get him out.”He has since been taken into custody.
