A motorist was fatally shot while driving near the Eastmont Mall in East Oakland early Saturday morning, an Oakland police officer said. At about 2 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 7100 block of Halliday Avenue on reports of a shooting, Oakland police Officer Kevin McDonald said. Police said that the man was driving, when a suspect opened fire on his vehicle. The wounded man hit several parked cars before coming to a stop along the roadway, according to McDonald. McDonald said that the driver was transported to Highland Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Alameda County coroner’s bureau had not identified the victim as of 6 a.m.
