A Monterey County family services worker was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of possession of child pornography, the county’s Department of Social and Employment Services said today.The child welfare worker, Gregory Winsell, 57, was arrested by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, which informed the department of Winsell’s arrest.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a location on Hacienda Carmel in Carmel Valley regarding a domestic disturbance and learned during their investigation that Winsell was allegedly in possession of approximately 500 images of child pornography. Elliot Robinson, director of the Department of Social and Employment Services, said in a statement in reaction to the arrest that child protection “is a priority” of the department.
“My staff and I respond immediately to reports of inappropriate behavior that may compromise the safety of our children and families,” Robinson said.The department, Robinson said, is reviewing the worker’s caseload to assure the safety and well-being of the children with whom he came into contact.Winsell was booked at Monterey County Jail.
