Police have arrested a suspect in an attempted carjacking and robbery in Palo Alto on Monday night. The crime happened in the 1200 block of Hamilton Avenue around 10:15 p.m. Police said a man approached people sitting in a parked car, opened the passenger door and demanded money and car keys. When the occupants told him they didn’t have any money, the man fled, police said. The occupants left the area and reported the incident to police. Officers responded and located a man matching the description of the suspect, then found a replica handgun and gloves on the ground nearby, according to police. Officers identified the man as Deanonta Holmes, an 18-year-old East Palo Alto resident. Holmes was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail. Police said he has been previously arrested on weapons and theft-related charges. Detectives are investigating whether Holmes may have been involved in other recent robberies.
