A police bomb squad is investigating a suspicious package near the Federal Building in San Francisco’s Civic Center neighborhood this afternoon. The package was reported at about 10:50 a.m. in the 400 block of Golden Gate Avenue, between Polk and Larkin streets, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said. The bomb squad was at the scene and still determining whether the package was explosive as of 12:45 p.m., he said. An announcement was made over the loudspeaker at the Federal Building at 450 Golden Gate Ave. just before noon. “Attention, please. This is not a drill. At this time, there is police activity on the Golden Gate side of the building. Occupants are asked to move away from the Golden Gate side of the building,” the voice said.
