* Samuel Mendoza Arrested by San Jose Police for Alleged Robbery of 6 to Midnight and Bonfare Markets

On 3/3/11, at approximately 11:32 a.m., San Jose police responded to a reported armed robbery at the 6 to Midnight convenience store, located at 5562 Monterey Road.
The investigation revealed a male subject had robbed the store clerk while armed with a handgun and fled in a waiting vehicle, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash. There were no reported shots fired and no one was injured during the robbery.
Investigating patrol officers recognized the gunman as Samuel Mendoza in the store’s security footage, from previous contacts with the suspect in the area of Crocker Court and Edenview Drive. The officers directed fellow officers to the area of Crocker Court and Edenview to search for the suspect.
Officer Matthew Blackerby was first to arrive at Crocker Court and observed Mendoza and a second male adult in front of an apartment complex. Mendoza fled on foot and Officer Blackerby was able to detain the second subject.
Officer Blackerby directed officers to the apartment complex where Mendoza was last seen running and, with the assistance of police canine and the Mobile Emergency Response Group and Equipment (MERGE) officers, Mendoza was apprehended without incident.
Further investigation revealed that Mendoza had also robbed the Bonfare Market, located at 1090 Leigh Avenue, on March 1, 2011, while armed with a firearm.
In that robbery, Mendoza made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. There were no reported shots fired or injuries during the robbery at Bonfare Market.
Samuel Mendoza was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on two counts of armed robbery. The second suspect’s identity is being withheld, pending further investigation.
