Two men were arrested on suspicion of robbing a San Jose convenience store at gunpoint today, a police spokesman said. The robbery occurred around 11:30 a.m. at a business in the 5500 block of Monterey Road, Officer Jose Garcia said. Garcia said surveillance footage shows a man walking into the business, brandishing a firearm, and demanding money from the attendant. The man left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and got into a getaway car, Garcia said. He said it does not appear that any shots were fired or anyone was harmed in the course of the robbery. Officers responded to the store and while examining the surveillance footage, one officer recognized the armed suspect as someone he had talked to at an apartment complex earlier this week, Garcia said. The officer called for additional officers to check the area near the complex, located at Crocker Court off of Edenview Drive. When officers arrived at about 1 p.m., they spotted both suspects outside the building. They took the driver into custody without incident, but the armed suspect took off running into one of the units, Garcia said. He said additional officers, a SWAT team and police dogs were called to assist in surrounding the complex. Eventually the man surrendered to officers around 3:30 p.m., Garcia said. As of 5 p.m., both suspects, 18 and 20 years of age, were still being interviewed by detectives and had not yet been booked, he said. Garcia could not say if any of the stolen cash or the firearm was recovered.
