A registered sex offender was arrested Friday on suspicion of attempting to sexually attack a woman at knife-point, Santa Cruz police said.A 20-year-old Santa Cruz woman was accosted Tuesday at around 11 p.m. as she was walking on the East Cliff Trestle Bridge, police said.The suspect tried to force oral copulation but the woman ran away and was not injured, police said.Police arrested Keith Rodrigues, 39, when they allegedly noticed a resemblance between him and a sketch that was made based on the victim’s description of the suspect, police said.As a transient sex offender, Rodrigues is required to register with the Santa Cruz Police Department every 30 days.

I managed the sex offender program for Ventura some years ago before I retired from the Oxnard Police Department…you cannot fix sex offeders. Until people get it, you will always have these nut jobs running on the streets violating our most vulnerable – children. Most social service departments treat sexual molestation as a family problem. There are incest loophole laws across the nation…until a few years ago, California’s law said, If you rape a child, go to prison…UNLESS you are a brother, father, uncle, cousin or boyfriend and if you plead guilty, you might just get probation and get to remain in the home with the child victim and be mandated counseling WITH THE VICTIM. Outrageous. It is Senate Bill 33 – The incest loophole law. http://www.thechildrenswalloftears.org
