* Matthew Miller Who Drowned in Walnut Creek, His Family Has Their Home Burglarized While They Are Away at Services
Published by Junior Staff Writer on February 25, 2011
The family of a teen who drowned last weekend in a Walnut Creek waterway was the victim of a burglary this morning, a police lieutenant said. The Miller family returned to their home at 1427 Homestead Ave. at around 12:30 p.m. to discover the house had been broken into and items were missing, Walnut Creek police Lt. Mark Covington said. The family is mourning the loss of their son, Matthew Miller, who died in a rafting accident Saturday along with his friend Gavin Powell. Matthew, 16, and Gavin, 17, told their families they were going rafting in a nearby aqueduct or creek at about 2 p.m. Saturday, Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jimmy Lee said. The boys, who were both juniors at Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek, were supposed to meet a friend at a designated location, but they failed to arrive two hours later, Lee said. Their bodies were found Sunday morning in the Walnut Creek waterway, which is located in Concord. Information about what was taken from the Millers’ home today was not immediately available, Covington said. No witnesses had come forward as of about 4 p.m. Please call the Fugitive Watch hot line at 1-800-9-CAUGHT (1-800-922-8448) or text us at 408-355-0999 or CLICK HERE to send a confidential email tip, if you have any information that can help solve this crime.
