A 41-year-old Oakland man has been arrested for allegedly abducting a 13-year-old girl as she was walking to school and then sexually assaulting her, a police spokeswoman said today.The girl, who was taken to Highland Hospital after the incident, told police that she was kidnapped in the area of 98th Avenue and Walnut Street in East Oakland on Thursday morning while she was walking to school, and then sexually assaulted, Officer Holly Joshi said.
Officers responded to that area and took the suspect, Ty Cooper, into custody, Joshi said. Cooper was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a minor and kidnapping, according to Joshi. She said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
