A burglary suspect who prompted a school lockdown when he ran through a middle school campus while fleeing from authorities on Monday morning has been arrested,a Sonoma County sheriff’s spokesman said.Leonardo Bautista, 20, of Santa Rosa, was arrested at a relative’s house in the 1600 block of Sebastopol Road in Santa Rosa at about 6:20 p.m. on Monday, sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Raasch said. Bautista and 18-year-old Victor Alba, also of Santa Rosa, are suspected of burglarizing a home on Royal Court in unincorporated Sonoma County.
The sheriff’s office responded to a report of two men in a suspicious vehicle on Royal Court near Olivet Elementary School at about 10:45 a.m.When Deputy Jim Ryan spotted the vehicle, a 2004 Dodge Ram truck, and made a U-turn to follow it, the driver pulled into the parking lot of Willowside Middle School at 5285 Hall Road, sheriff’s Lt. Steve Brown said.Alba, the driver, was arrested at the school. Bautista ran from the truck and through the campus of the middle school, according to the sheriff’s office.Both schools were locked down for about an hour Monday morning.
Raasch said the truck belongs to Alba’s father and both suspects were casing the Royal Court neighborhood for a couple of hours on Monday.A safe, jewelry and other items taken from the Royal Court home that was burglarized were found in the truck, Raasch said.Brown said Bautista and Alba are known Sureno gang members. They were booked into Sonoma County Jail for burglary, possession of stolen property, and vandalism. Bautista is being held without bail for a probation violation. Alba’s bail was $40,000.
