* Maurice Murray Salinas man to serve 30 years for child molestation

A judge sentenced a man to 30 years to life in prison for committing lewd acts on two children under 14 years old, Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo announced Wednesday.In October 2008, Salinas resident Maurice Burton Murray, 54, sexually molested an 11-year-old girl while at a “sleepover” at her grandmother’s house in Salinas, a court spokesman said.Two months later, Murray molested another 10-year-old girl while at a “sleepover” at the same house.At the trial, the court said that a 30-year-old woman testified against Murray, stating that he had molested her in 1987.On the fourth day of the trial, Murray failed to show up to court and was apprehended about six days after the absence in El Paso, Texas.Murray returned to Monterey County following extradition proceedings and was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison by Monterey County Superior Court Judge Larry Hayes on Feb. 1.
