* Anthony Square Arrested in Richmond for Alleged Rape of 80 Year Old Woman

A 44-year-old Richmond man was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of raping an elderly relative last week, Richmond police Sgt. Bisa French said today. Anthony Square is accused of sexually assaulting an 80-year-old woman Thursday night in her home in the 2400 block of Nevin Avenue, French said. The attack was reported at about 8 a.m. Friday. According to police, Square is a relative of the victim by marriage. The victim had activated a Life Alert emergency notification transponder Thursday night, but when police responded to the notification, she “didn’t tell us what happened at that time,” French said. The woman called back Friday morning and said Square had assaulted her, French said. She was taken to a hospital and was released Friday evening, French said. Square was in a hospital until Sunday night when he was arrested. The reason for his hospitalization was not released because of patient privacy laws. He was being held in county jail in Martinez this morning in lieu of $225,000 bail, a county jail official said. French said detectives will likely bring the case to the district attorney’s office on Tuesday.
