Two teenagers charged with murder for allegedly gunning down a 16-year-old El Cerrito High School student in front of his family’s home in Richmond on Monday were arraigned today but did not enter pleas. Jean Pierre Fordjour, a 19-year-old Suisun City resident, has been charged with murder with a firearm enhancement. Fordjour allegedly drove the car used in the shooting, Deputy District Attorney Gerald Chang said. The alleged shooter, 16-year-old Richmond resident Tyris Franklin, was charged as an adult with murder with an enhancement for the use of a firearm. Prosecutors declined to file charges against a third 16-year-old boy, Chang said. The two defendants were arraigned in Contra Costa County Superior Court in Martinez this afternoon and are scheduled to return to court Jan. 24 to be assigned attorneys and enter pleas. Both defendants remained in custody. Franklin’s bail was set at $2 million and Fordjour’s was set at $1 million. Investigators were still working to determine a motive for the shooting, which happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. at 4026 Fleming Ave. Officers found the victim, 16-year-old Gene Deshane Grisby, in front of his house suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper torso, Richmond police Lt. Shawn Pickett said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. After the shooting, witnesses followed the suspects’ car and provided a description of the vehicle to police, Pickett said. Shortly before 5:30 p.m. Monday, a school resource officer headed
to Kennedy High School saw a car that matched the description of the shooter’s vehicle traveling east on Fall Avenue at South 45th Street, about
half a mile from the murder scene, Pickett said. The officer, with help from several other officers, stopped the vehicle and arrested the three people inside. Witnesses later identified them as the suspects.
