* Salvador Pena Dies Three Weeks After Being Stabbed in San Jose

A San Jose man died on Friday from a stab wound inflicted in a mid-December evening incident inside a local jewelry store, a police spokesman said this evening. Salvador Pena, 56, was found suffering from a stab wound in a jewelry store on the 1500 block of Alum Rock Avenue at about 9:35 p.m. on Dec. 15, 2010, police Sgt. Ronnie Lopez said. Police initially responded to the incident after a passerby who knew the store owner saw an unidentified man enter the store at an hour when it was closed, Lopez said. The suspect — described a black man in his 20s, 6 feet tall, medium build, wearing dark clothing — entered the store and didn’t come out, Lopez said. Arriving police didn’t locate the suspect, but transported Pena to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening wounds, Lopez said. Pena’s condition from the wounds continued to worsen until he died on Friday, Lopez said. Pena’s death is among four homicides in San Jose in 2011, Lopez said. Lopez said he will not be able to release more information on this case until 7 a.m. Sunday.
