Published by Junior Staff Writer on January 2, 2011
Austin Police Officer Frank Wilson suffered a stab wound before shooting suspect Maurice Pierce on Heinemann Drive in northwest Austin. The suspect is dead, and the officer is in stable condition. According to authorities, Officer Frank Wilson tried to make a car stop after the car ran a stop sign. The suspect then fled by foot through a north Austin neighborhood. A struggle ensued when Officer Wilson caught the suspect. The suspect then grabbed the officer’s duty belt knife and stabbed him in the neck. Officer Wilson then drew his gun and shot the suspect. Pierce was arrested in 1991 in connection with the cold blooded murder of 4 young teenagers working in a “I Can’t Believe It’s Yogurt” shop, but the charges against him were dismissed four years later due to lack of evidence. This was the second violent episode between Pierce and Austin police in the last two years.
