A man and woman from Pleasanton died in an apparent murder-suicide in San Diego on Friday morning, a San Diego police lieutenant said today. Michel David, 22, was found dead from gunshot wounds shortly before 10 a.m. Friday, and officers found her ex-boyfriend, Daniel Shoemake, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound nearby, San Diego police Lt. Kevin Rooney said. Both David and Shoemake attended Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton. David was just a week away from graduating from San Diego State University, Rooney said. Officers had responded to a report of gunshots fired in the area of 55th Street and El Cajon Boulevard, located just south of the SDSU campus. David was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and an
assault rifle was recovered near her body, Rooney said. She was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead. As officers cordoned off the area, Shoemake was spotted in the driver’s seat of a truck parked nearby. Investigators determined he had died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. A handgun was found on the floorboard of the truck, police said. A note was also found in Shoemake’s home in San Diego, but Rooney declined to specify what the note said. David and Shoemake were formerly in a relationship, Rooney said. ”We don’t know exactly when they broke up,” he said. “That’s still one of the answers we’re looking for.” Along with attending SDSU, David also worked at a Cheesecake Factory restaurant in nearby Chula Vista. Shoemake had also attended SDSU and was involved in the school’s ROTC program, but was no longer a current student, according to Rooney.
