Published by Junior Staff Writer on December 12, 2010
A man was wounded in a shooting in Oakland on Saturday, which proved to be a bloody day for the city, police reported. The shooting took place around 3:35 p.m. in the 6000 block of Harmon Avenue, police Officer J. Moore said. Officers responded to the shooting, but no suspects or victims were located at the scene, Moore said. A man believed to be connected to the gunfire later transported himself to a local hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the hand, Moore said. The man was the only reported victim of the shooting. There is no indication of why the shooting took place and police do not have a suspect description at this time, Moore said. Police are actively investigating this shooting. The Harmon Avenue shooting was the first of three incidents involving firearms that wounded or killed people on the streets of Oakland on Saturday. Around 7 p.m. that evening, five people were shot in the 9000 block of International Boulevard, police said. One of those people succumbed to their injuries, and the other four – a mix of both men and women remained in the hospital in stable condition as of this morning. Another person was injured later that night during an exchange of gunfire on Broadway near the City Hall Plaza around 11: 15 p.m., and was listed as being in stable condition at a local hospital early this morning, Moore said. One person was taken into custody in connection with the Broadway shootout – which was witnessed by police – but suspects remain at large in the other two shootings.
