A man who allegedly crashed a stolen car into a BART police cruiser while fleeing deputies after ramming their car is being held on a parole violation, according to Alameda County Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. J.D. Nelson. Nelson said 23-year-old Damon Davis of Hayward could face charges of assaulting a police officer and evasion for the incident late Sunday night, but for now he is being held for allegedly violating his parole for a previous auto theft conviction.Nelson said sheriff’s deputies stopped Davis shortly before midnight on Sunday for driving a vehicle that had been reported as stolen from the Castro Valley BART station.Davis then tried to ram into one of the deputies before fleeing the traffic stop, according to Nelson.Deputies pursued Davis until the stolen vehicle reached the intersection of Grand and B streets in Hayward, Nelson said.At that intersection, Davis ran a red light and hit a BART police officer’s car, according to Nelson. The police officer was proceeding on a green light when he was struck by the suspect, he said.The BART officer was not assisting the sheriff’s deputies in the car chase when he was hit, according to BART.The 38-year-old officer, who has been with BART since 2001 but whose name is being withheld at this time, was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening, BART said.BART officials weren’t available today for an update on the officer’s condition.Davis was arrested by sheriff’s deputies at the scene and was also transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life threatening, Nelson said.Nelson said Davis remains hospitalized today but said he doesn’t have any details on Davis’s condition.
