A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in Moss Beach on Thursday for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend in the neck, a San Mateo County sheriff’s sergeant said today. Emergency personnel received a 911 call around 4:45 p.m. Thursday from a woman who said her boyfriend had stabbed her in their home, Sgt. Linda Gibbons said. Officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Barranca Street in the Pillar Ridge mobile home park and found the victim, a 55-year-old woman, lying on the ground outside suffering from a “traumatic” stab wound to her neck, Gibbons said. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she
underwent surgery and was still recovering as of this afternoon, Gibbons  said. “(Her injury) was at first believed to be potentially life threatening, but after receiving treatment she is expected to make a full recovery,” Gibbons said. David John Vanalstine, 56, was taken into custody at the scene but was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a medical condition,  Gibbons said. Police could not discuss the nature of Vanalstine’s condition, but it was not an injury sustained during Thursday’s incident, Gibbons said.    Vanalstine was also still in the hospital this afternoon but will be booked into the San Mateo County jail when he is released, Gibbons said. An edged weapon was recovered from the scene and taken into evidence, Gibbons said. Police also uncovered a history of law enforcement responses to the residence, which Vanalstine and the victim had been sharing for several years, Gibbons said. He declined to describe the nature of the calls.
