Police arrested four people Tuesday during an undercover sting operation at the county courthouse in Santa Rosa targeting DUI, suspended, and unlicensed drivers. Staking out those offenders who had been explicitly instructed by a judge not to drive, officers followed the subjects out to the parking area to confirm that the drivers were following orders. While some of the 10 people police followed had arranged alternate means of transportation, four people did not and were subsequently arrested by police. Three people – Francisco Javier Hernandez, 23, Alberto Moya Contreras, 40, and Devin Drew Schiefer, 26 – were arrested on suspicion of driving on a suspended license, police said. Since January 2008, Hernandez has been arrested four times for driving on a suspended license in Sonoma County, police said. Contreras has also been arrested as many times in an almost equal amount of time, with his offenses dating back to February 2008. He was in court Tuesday for violating the terms of his court-ordered probation, according to police. Schiefer’s offenses began in 2007, and he has been arrested for driving on a suspended license in Sonoma County three times since then. The fourth person arrested, 20-year-old Marissa Anne Mezzanaito, was nabbed for driving with no license issued, police said. She appeared in court that day on a prior theft charge, but does not have a driver’s license. All four vehicles were impounded by police for 30 days, police said. Funding for the operation was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
