Two Vallejo men were arrested today on suspicion of stealing copper wire from a solar panel field in Vacaville, police said. Police were notified around 5:15 a.m. of a theft in progress in the 500 block of Crocker Drive. Officers surrounded the solar field and allegedly found Anthony Paul Oriarte, 50, and David Troy Tobey, 39, in bushes near a hole in the fence around the solar panel field, police said. Police found several damaged solar panel boxes and several hundred feet of copper wire which had been pulled from the solar panel field. The damage and loss of wire was estimated at more than $10,000, police said. Oriarte and Tobey were arrested on suspicion of grand theft and conspiracy, police said. Oriarte was also arrested for allegedly being in possession of a methamphetamine pipe and violating probation, police said.
