* Ricardo Martinez Alleged Double Murder Suspect Arrested in New Mexico

A suspect in a double murder in Fairfield earlier this month was arrested in New Mexico Sunday, Fairfield police said this afternoon. Ricardo Martinez, 50, was arrested by the Farmington, N.M., Police Department’s SWAT team at a private residence in Farmington around 9:30 p.m., Fairfield police Lt. Greg Hurlbut said. Martinez, also known as Ricardo Martinez Deleon, is suspected of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend, 35-year-old Maria Terronez, and her 31-year-old boyfriend, Jose Velarde-Lopez, on Nov. 13 on Crowley Lane. Farmington police were notified of Martinez’s whereabouts by a citizen informant, Hurlbut said. Fairfield police are in Farmington searching for evidence, he said. Martinez’s vehicle and physical evidence linking him to the murders have been seized. Fairfield police are working with the Solano County District Attorney’s Office to extradite Martinez to California, Hurlbut said. Police responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex on Crowley Lane around 6:15 p.m. on Nov. 12. Witnesses said Martinez was arguing with Terronez in the parking lot, but her family surrounded him and convinced Martinez to leave, Hurlbut said. Terronez had a restraining order against Martinez, but it had not been served, Hurlbut said. Police returned to the apartment complex after receiving reports about gunfire around 1:15 a.m. Nov. 13, Hurlbut said. They found Terronez and Velarde-Lopez had been shot. The Solano County coroner’s office said they were each shot once in the head and died around 2 a.m. at the NorthBay Medical Center.
