A man arrested last week and charged with 69 felony counts for alleged repeated, long-term rape and molestation of his 15-year-old daughter did not enter a plea at a scheduled appearance today in San Mateo County Superior Court. Daly City resident Alfredo Vasquez, 43, will return to court in Redwood City Monday for plea entry because his appointed defense attorney was unavailable today, Chief District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. Vasquez could receive up to 142 years in prison if convicted of the all charges, which include child molestation, sodomy, unlawful sex with a minor, oral copulation, and making threats, Wagstaffe said. The police investigation into the case began on Nov. 9, said Daly City police Detective Ron Harrison, who is handling the case. That day, the victim was at a friend’s house after school and told her friend she was afraid to go home, Wagstaffe said. The girl eventually revealed that her father had been abusing her about four times a month since she was 11 years old, beginning with inappropriate touching and escalating to intercourse, Wagstaffe said. The friend immediately told her mother what the victim had said, and the friend’s mother called Daly City police, Wagstaffe said. Harrison said he responded and interviewed the victim before police arranged a recorded phone conversation between the father and daughter to investigate their interaction. During the phone call, the father made statements to his daughter that enabled police to bring him in for questioning and eventually file charges, Wagstaffe said. The investigation took only about three hours, Harrison said. While being interrogated by the police on the evening of Nov. 9 and early Nov. 10, Vasquez “made some admissions” about the alleged abuse, Harrison said. Vasquez is being held at the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City on $3.6 million bail, Wagstaffe said.
