A man was arrested last week on suspicion of arson in connection with a boat fire in unincorporated Bay Point in October, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District fire marshal said today.James Arthur Pehlke, 44, of Bay Point, was arrested on Wednesday night on suspicion of setting an inoperative boat on fire in the backyard of 152 N. Broadway Ave. at about 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 9, according to fire officials.Firefighters found items piled in the boat that were smoldering after they had burned, Fire Marshal Lewis Broschard said. Investigators eventually identified Pehlke as a possible suspect, and the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office filed arson charges against him and issued a warrant for his arrest.Pehlke was located and arrested without incident by Contra Costa County sheriff’s deputies in Bay Point. He was booked in county jail in Martinez with bail set at $80,000, fire officials said. He also faces enhancements since he was on probation at the time of the alleged arson, and had multiple prior felony convictions, according to fire officials. Broschard did not have any information about a possible motive for the arson.
